Research: 

My interdisciplinary research activities are focused on fostering sustainability and resilience in civil infrastructure by addressing the geotechnical aspects of renewable energy systems, developing high-performance and multifunctional materials, and incorporating uncertainty analysis and optimization into the design of geotechnical and structural systems.

Undergraduate Research Assistant:
Two URA positions are available in my research group. Focus of the research is on the prediction of materials failure and seismic structural response using data mining methods.
The ideal candidates should have experience in working with MATLAB and be willing to learn independently the basics of a data mining method (e.g. artificial neural networks, support vector machines or genetic programming). Programming experience will be an asset.

About Me: 

Shortly after completing his PhD studies at the University of Oklahoma (OU) in December 2015, Dr. Yazdani was appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Howard University, Washington, DC in January 2016. His PhD research was on the laboratory development and multiscale simulation of sensor-enabled geogrids. He co-authored one book chapter, 12 peer-reviewed journal and seven conference papers during his 4-year GRA appointment at OU. Dr. Yazdani is also a recipient of several competitive national awards including the best paper at the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) Student Paper Competition in Phoenix, AZ and an ASTM International Project Grant in 2013, Best Paper Award at the 10th Annual Conference in Computer Science at OU in 2014, and an NSF Travel Grant to present a peer-reviewed technical paper at the Engineering Mechanics Institute (EMI) Conference at Stanford University in 2015.
