Investigations of distressed bridges, garages, facades, plazas, slabs and balconies.

Materials Engineering:
Specification preparation for construction materials using ASTM and AASHTO test methods and specifications. Characterization of cementitous materials using scanning electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction and mercury intrusion porosimetry methods.

About Me: 

Dr. Burley has worked in federal and state governments and in private practice. He has been an adjunct faculty member at Howard University since 1999. His specialty includes repair and rehabilitation of civil structures and his past projects include bridges, buildings, nuclear power plants, and airfield and roadway pavements. He was the associate investigator for the U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratories’ BUILDER Sustainment Management System (SMS) software which began development in 1994 and is currently being used by federal agencies and private building owners to manage their building assets. In 1997, Dr. Burley received an award for work related to BUILDER SMS Version 1.0 development. He is a professional engineer and is registered in multiple jurisdictions.

“Hydrographs of Basin Outflow.” Presented at the 1986 American Water Works Association Fall Conference, Baltimore, Maryland.

“An Investigation of Transverse Cracking in the Concrete Bridge Decks of Bridges 9021 and 9022.” Presented and Pre-Print Published at the 1990 Annual Maryland State Highway Administration and Maryland Highway Contractors Joint Quality Control Meeting, Hunt Valley, Maryland.

“Use of Wastewater Sludge Ash to Produce Economically Low Strength Structural Concrete.” Presented and Pre-Print Published at the Low Strength Materials Symposium of the 1992 American Concrete Institute Spring Convention, Washington, D.C.

“Assessing Building Condition by the Use of Condition Indexes” Presented and Pre-Print Published at the 1997 Infrastructure Condition Assessment Conference sponsored by the American Society of Civil Engineers, Boston, Massachusetts.
